10 Best Ways to Secure Your Facebook & WhatsApp From Hackers and Scammers (2025 Guide):

In today’s digital world, Facebook and WhatsApp are no longer just social platforms, they’re where we store chats, memories, business customers, and even private information.
That’s why hackers now target Nigerians more than ever through:

• Account cloning

• SIM swap fraud

• Fake login links

• Session hijacking

• WhatsApp takeover attempts

• Password guessing

• Device malware

This guide breaks down simple and advanced steps you must take immediately to protect your accounts.

 1. Turn On Two-Factor Authentication (2FA):

This is the strongest wall against hackers.

For Facebook:

Go to Settings → Password & security → Two-factor authentication
Choose Authentication app (Google Authenticator or Authy).

For WhatsApp:

Go to Settings → Account → Two-step verification
Set a 6-digit PIN and add an email.

Why this matters:
Even if someone gets your password, they still can’t enter your account.

 2. Use a Strong, Unique Password:

Your password must:

• Contain at least 10 characters

• Include letters + numbers + symbol

• Not appear anywhere else (never reuse your email password!)

 Avoid passwords like:
12345, your name, birthday, phone number.

 Use something like:
Kene@Tech_294!

 3. Remove Unknown Devices Logged Into Your Account:

Both apps store devices you’ve logged in from.

For Facebook:

Settings → Security → Where you're logged in
Remove all unfamiliar devices, especially:

• TECNO unknown

• iPhone from Lagos

• Windows PC you don’t own

• Sudan / India / Ghana IPs

For WhatsApp:

Settings → Linked Devices → Log out all suspicious browsers

 4. Avoid Clicking Random Links (Phishing Protection):

Hackers send fake links such as:

• Your Facebook will be disabled, click to verify.

• You won 10,000 recharge card.

• Your WhatsApp number will be blocked.

Once you click, they steal your login.

Rule:
If the link didn’t come from Facebook or WhatsApp directly, don’t click it.

 5. Don’t Share Verification Codes With Anyone:

Hackers use this line:

Please send the code I mistakenly sent to your phone.

That code = your account login.

Once you send it, your WhatsApp is gone.

Never share:

• 6-digit OTP

• Facebook reset code

• WhatsApp verification code

 6. Turn On Login Alerts:

This lets you know when someone tries to enter your account.

Facebook:

Settings → Security → Get alerts about unrecognized logins

WhatsApp:

You’ll get alerts if someone tries to register your number on another phone.

 7. Lock Your SIM With a PIN (Advanced Protection):

Many hacks start with SIM swap.

To prevent someone from using your SIM:

Go to Phone Settings → Security → SIM Lock
Set a 4-digit PIN.

This prevents hackers from:

• Taking control of your WhatsApp

• Receiving your OTP

• Resetting your Facebook password

 8. Always Update Facebook & WhatsApp:

Updates fix:

• Security holes

• Bugs

• Vulnerabilities hackers use

Outdated apps = easy target.

 9. Enable End-to-End Encryption Backups on WhatsApp:

Go to:
Settings → Chats → Chat backup → End-to-end encrypted backup

This ensures nobody not even WhatsApp can access your stored chats.

 10. Turn On Profile Lock and Restrict Public Information:

This reduces cloning and impersonation.

Facebook Profile Lock:

Settings → Profile → Lock profile
Your pictures become private to strangers.

Also avoid showing:

• Phone number

• Email

• Date of birth

• Home address

Hackers use these for password guessing.

Final Advice:

Cybersecurity is no longer optional. Hackers attack anyone, students, business owners, creators, or even parents using WhatsApp.

Take 10 minutes today and secure your Facebook and WhatsApp before it’s too late.
